- Cohort Size (Pilot):
- 20 verified electricians who live and work in from Yenagoa town.
2. ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Glow Initiative for Economic Empowerment and the Renewable Energy Technology Training Institute are proud to announce the first pilot of the Solar Skilled Electrician Project, supported by First E&P and NNPC. After witnessing countless failed solar installations, attributable to unskilled electricians, it has become important to bridge this skills gap. In Nigeria (and across Africa), millions of solar systems fail prematurely because installers and sellers lack the technical know‑how needed for high‑quality, durable installations. As a result, consumers distrust renewable solutions and adoption rates remain low.
Our pilot phase will train 20 practicing electricians and solar entrepreneurs from Yenagoa.
Expected Impact:
- 43% Increase in Clean‐Energy Uptake in Bayelsa by the end of Year 1.
- Reduction of Failed Solar Installations by empowering technicians who adhere to best‑practice installation standards.
- Creation of a Scaled Training Network, as each of the 20 graduates trains others
- Improved Consumer Confidence, driving a virtuous cycle of adoption, word‑of‑mouth referrals, and higher‑quality installations.
- Increased income for electricians
