Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders

Raising smart energy leaders to deliver a zero carbon africa

About

The Africa Energy Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders is an education venture designed to invest into the next generation energy leaders who will deliver a sustainable access to energy and ultimately a zero carbon Africa.

The ambition of the Program is to train recent graduates of Physics, Electricial and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building / Construction Engineering, Physics, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Finance and Solar Energy on core aspects of Renewable Energy Technology and opportunities for career advancement in the energy value chain.

The goal is to churn out competent workforce for the renewable energy industry and build entrepreneurs who will advance access to clean energy to 600 Million in Africa without Access and retain young African talent in a crucial sector like renewable energy, of paramount importance to unlock Africa’s sustainable future. The program offers the knowledge of international experts on four groups of renewable energy technologies:

  • Solar PV (utility-scale and small-scale)
  • Onshore Wind
  • Bioenergy
  • Small-scale Hydropower

With regards to three core aspects:

  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Financing

And with a focus on Africa

The Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders (AFYEL) is an education venture initiated by The Renewable Energy Technology Training Institute in Partnership with RETTI Virtual University, government agencies, top Academic institutions and private sector companies.

Program structure

The 16 week fellowship will include expert training sessions facilitated across mentioned learning areas. The goal is to pass on knowledge and deep understanding of the areas to enable participant get empowered and gain clarity to create solutions in the area or serve as competent employee or pursue a higher degree program. Fellows will be encouraged to come up with tech solutions to identified problems.

They will design a prototype of this solution or some sort of formal presentation; at the end of their fellowship, they will pitch their solution and the top 5-7 will be selected at the end of the fellowship for awards, Internships or absorption into incubation programs.

There will be four thematic training areas for selected fellows, namely;

1) HYDROPOWER Learning Program

  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Financing

2) WINDPOWER AND TURBINE Learning Program

  • Engineering
  • Economics
  • Financing

3) SOLAR POWER AND PHOTOVOLTAICS Learning Program:
